Thinking of booking a trip to Florence soon? We got you. Florence is one of our favourite locations in the world and our writers have been there many times. If you want to know which UK airports fly direct to Florence here are a list:
- London Gatwick Airport
- London City Airport
- Edinburgh Airport
- Southampton Airport
Amerigo Vespucci Airport (Florence Airport)
When flying direct to Florence from any of the above airports you will land at Amerigo Vespucci Airport, which is located 8km away from the Florence city centre. You can get to the centre of Florence from the airport via taxi, shuttle or bus. To get from the airport to the centre you can take the T2 tram which costs around £1.50 and will take you to the Unita stop. Get out there and you will be in the city centre where you can walk or get a taxi to your hotel.
A Florence flight should take 2-3 hours depending on where in the UK you are departing from.
As the UK’s premier Airport transfer services we can help you get to the above airports that fly direct to Florence from anywhere in the UK while being more affordable than other providers, if you would like a quote please get in touch. Flying to airports near Florence
Flying direct to Florence from Gatwick, London City, Edinburgh or Southampton may not be convenient or within budget. If that is the case then there are other options you can try. Pisa Airport and Bologna Airport all have direct flights from the UK and are serviced by the budget airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair compared to flights to Florence from more premium airlines such as British Airways.
Flying to airports near Florence gives you the opportunity to fly from local airports such as Manchester Airport, Bristol, London Heathrow, London Stansted and many more in the UK. If you do choose this option you will need to catch public transport or hire a private taxi to get you from Pisa/Bologna to Florence.
What I would recommend is to fly into Pisa on a budget airline. Easyjet flights are very affordable which allows you to book a hotel in Pisa if you want, you can then stay here for a day and explore the leaning tower and then move on to Florence a day later via the train which is located right next to Pisa Airport. Not only do you get to explore more European cities, but you get a cheap flight and far more flexibility from what airline you want to travel with and what airport you want to fly from. Flight time to Pisa should take around 2 hours.
Best places to stay in Florence
If you are travelling to Florence for peace and quiet my advice would be to stay out in the hills of Florence. Belmond Villa San Michele is a great place to stay out in the Florence Hills but it can be very pricey too. If you are going to Florence to be a part of the vibrant atmosphere then I would recommend staying close as you can to the Duomo which is a must-see attraction by the way. The Telegraph has a great article on some of the best places to stay when visiting Florence which you can read here.
Conclusion
If you want to fly directly from the United Kingdom to Florence you are limited to 4 airports in the UK and you are also limited by the airlines you can fly from. A British Airways flight such as the direct flight they offer to Florence main airport is also going to be more expensive than a non stop flight to Pisa airport from a budget airline. Whichever you choose there will be regular flights available with both options.
