Luxury Hotels in London (Top 10 Summary)
Are you planning a luxury weekend break to London where you can really splash out and treat yourself? While you can do London on a budget if you try, there are plenty of places where you can blow straight through that budget, especially when it comes to accommodation. So, if you’re looking for the Top 10 5-star luxury hotel experience that London has to offer, then read on.
While there were lots of hotels we could’ve mentioned here, let’s look at 10 of the best.
45 Park Lane, Mayfair, London
It’s no surprise that many of the best, most luxurious (and most expensive) hotels in Central London can be found in Mayfair. Park Lane and Mayfair are the costliest properties on a Monopoly board for a reason! This first hotel we’re looking at can be found on Park Lane, right near the edge of Hyde Park in Mayfair.
45 Park Lane is one of nine luxury hotels managed by the Dorchester Collection, three of which are located in London. For prices starting around £750 per night (the most expensive place on this list), you can enjoy all the glitz and glamour that Mayfair has to offer, including stunning décor, famous artwork, and the relaxing Dorchester Spa. And you can enjoy the best steak in London, according to many, at CUT, the hotel’s resident restaurant by Wolfgang Puck.
Shangri-La Hotel, Southwark
What better place to stay than in the tallest building in the country? The Shangri-La Hotel is located across 18 floors of The Shard, starting on level 34. So, no matter which room you book here, you’re guaranteed incredible panoramic views of the city. Relax in the infinity pool located on the 52nd floor of The Shard (the highest hotel pool in all of Western Europe!) and spend evenings wining and dining in the TĪNG Restaurant or the GŎNG Bar & Lounge.
Prices are expensive but not quite Park Lane expensive, with rooms starting at over £300 per night.
Brown’s Hotel, Mayfair
Back to Mayfair with Brown’s Hotel, claimed to be one of London’s oldest hotels (among other claims to fame, such as the place where Rudyard Kipling wrote The Jungle Book and where Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call). Brown’s is formed by original Georgian townhouses that have been converted into rooms and suites.
It offers all of the luxury and sophistication you’d expect from Mayfair, but is a little more modern and less stuffy than other 5-star options. You can enjoy delicious meals at Charlie’s restaurant, sweat it out in the hotel gym, and take a break in the hotel spa.
The Goring, Belgravia
The Goring hotel in Belgravia is the place where Kate Middleton spent the night before her big royal wedding, and it has been host to many other stars as well. Located a short walk from Buckingham Palace, The Goring is an ideal location for all of your royal sightseeing in London.
Each room is uniquely decorated with elegance and luxurious comfort. The Goring is also home to a Michelin star restaurant and award-winning afternoon tea, so you can enjoy amazing dining experiences without even leaving the hotel.
The Langham, Marylebone
The Langham hotel has been serving guests in Marylebone since 1865, nestled in amongst Mayfair and Fitzrovia. It’s certainly an elegant place, adorned with chandeliers and marble columns, but it has also undergone a fair bit of modernisation over the years. It boasts 380 rooms, including luxury suites and apartments, as well as a spa, gym, and indoor pool. The Langham also puts you in a great, central position in London, close to Royal Parks, famous shopping streets, and a range of popular attractions.
Dukes London, St. James’s
Dukes is another London hotel with a literary claim to fame, as Ian Fleming is said to have decided on James Bond’s signature martini while enjoying a drink in Dukes Bar. This quaint, luxury hotel puts you at the heart of what London has to offer, located next to Green Park and St. James’s Park. And Mayfair is just a stone’s throw away, yet this hotel’s rooms start from less than £200 per night. Or you can splash out on one of the larger, multi-room apartments on offer here.
The Beaumont, Mayfair
We’re back in Mayfair with The Beaumont Hotel, complete with a three-story Antony Gormley sculpture at the front (which is actually a bedroom that you can spend the night in). This is a modern hotel, opening in 2014, although it sits in a Grade-II-listed building from almost 100 years ago. It features elegant art deco stylings and lots of great amenities for its guests, including The Colony Grill Room and a hotel gym, spa, and salon.
The Savoy, Strand
A London icon since 1889, The Savoy has hosted some of the biggest stars from the golden age of Hollywood, including Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Frank Sinatra. And you can still feel that glamour when you step into the hotel, with doormen dressed up in tops and tails welcoming you.
Enjoy the stylish combination of Edwardian and art deco design throughout the hotel rooms and its many bars and restaurants. And if you’re looking for a good read before bed, The Savoy even employs a Literary Ambassador to suggest a novel for you. A room on the Thames side of this luxury London hotel will give you incredible views of the river and seven of London’s bridges.
Hotel Café Royal, Soho
Soho offers a great range of stylish, boutique accommodation, from luxury offerings to more affordable options. The 5-star Hotel Café Royal sits at the edge of Soho on Regent Street, and has served lots of the rich and famous in its time. It’s a beautifully extravagant building, both inside and out, with the lobby adorned with chandeliers, a spiral staircase, and lots of marble. You can even enjoy a free yoga or Pilates class to get your day started during your stay.
The Ritz, Piccadilly
You’ll truly be putting on the Ritz with a stay at this incredible luxury London hotel, which has been serving wealthy guests in Piccadilly for more than 100 years. The Ritz is home to a Michelin star restaurant, which the Queen Mother is said to have frequented, as well as highly-praised afternoon tea at the Palm Court. It’s a truly palatial hotel in close proximity to some of Central London’s royal parks as well as Buckingham Palace.
